RAGT has been at the forefront of plant breeding for more than 40 years and is one of Europe's leading seeds businesses with one of the most comprehensive seed catalogues in Europe. The product portfolio extends from cereals and oilseeds to maize and forage and amenity grasses. RAGT has 31 breeding programmes, focused on 22 different species at 12 breeding stations across Europe (see map). In addition, the company has collaborative programs with a number of leading research institutions and strategic alliances with several leaders in genomics and genetic technology.

The UK Wheat breeding program is based in Trumpington on the outskirts of Cambridge and is the UK base for RAGT Seeds. It has been the home of plant breeding for more than 50 years, since the government-funded Plant Breeding Institute relocated from the University of Cambridge in 1952. Today wheat varieties are produced for all sectors of the farming industry, from traditional family farms to major agribusinesses. Varieties are developed to meet the needs of every market at home and abroad – from bread and biscuit making, through to whisky distilling and animal feed. Varieties bred for the UK market still carry the reputed PBIC brand logo.

RAGT Seeds’ production plant is located at Stretham, near Ely, which also houses our seed quality lab and officially licensed DEFRA seed testing station. This long established seed quality laboratory performs all in-house testing and certification.
